The Hunger Games Official Rules & Competition Breakdown

The Hunger Games Food Drive is a countywide, friendly competition bringing businesses, schools, nonprofits, churches, civic groups, healthcare organizations, and community partners together to support local children and families.

The competition runs throughout September in recognition of Hunger Action Month, with the winning District crowned at the Feast of Champions on September 24.

How the competition works:

Participating organizations are assigned to one of 8 Districts:

Your organization competes individually AND contributes to your District's overall total.

How to Earn Points

Points are earned through food and monetary donations:

1 Food Item = 1 Point

$1 Donated = 2 Points

Examples:

  • 100 food items = 100 points

  • $100 donation = 200 points

  • 500 food items + $250 donation = 1000 points

Organizations are encouraged to collect both food and monetary donations.

Most needed food items

Our priority collection items include:

  • Mac & Cheese

  • Canned Meat

  • Canned Fruit

  • Ramen Noodles

  • Cereal

  • Ravioli

  • Jelly

All food must be unopened, commercially packaged, and within its expiration/best-by date.

Please do not donate opened, homemade, expired, or damaged food.

Monetary Donations

Monetary donations count toward your Hunger Games total at 2 points for every $1 raised.

Organizations can get creative!

Host a dress-down day, office competition, customer challenge, employee fundraiser, donation jar, percentage-of-sales day, or challenge another organization to raise more than you.

All money raised through the Hunger Games Food Drive benefits the Family Resource Center and its work supporting local kids and families.

FEAST OF CHAMPIONS

The Hunger Games concludes with the:

FEAST OF CHAMPIONS-September 24 2026 at the RACC in Lecanto

We'll celebrate the organizations that stepped into the arena, recognize our community partners, announce final results and crown our Hunger Games Champions!

And, of course, we'll have the Parade of the Tributes because if you're entering the Hunger Games, you deserve an entrance.

The Real Win

There may be one Hunger Games Champion, but the real winners are the local kids and families supported because our community showed up.

Every box of cereal. Every cup of ramen. Every can of food. Every dollar. It all adds up.

Play Fair

This is a community fundraiser first and a competition second.

Participants are expected to:

  • Report donations accurately.

  • Count only donations collected during the official competition.

  • Do not intentionally inflate item counts.

  • Do not count the same donation more than once.

  • Treat other participating organizations and Districts respectfully.

  • Keep the competition fun, positive and community-focused.

Good-natured trash talk is welcome. Cheating isn't.

The Family Resource Center reserves the right to verify totals or clarify scoring when necessary.
